A handcrafted log building does not have to be old fashioned. We can choose different styles and combine traditional design to modern thinking. Timo, the Log master crafter of our company, has written a book (published year 2023) that covers both technical information on log construction and visual plans of what future log architecture could be.
The book is in published in Finnish with the title “Hirsi Arkkitehtuurin Alkuaineena” but we are working on an English version of it.
Fan Assembly with logs
Traditionally the buts and the tops of the logs are laid opposite of each other on the wall. However, it is possible to set all the buts in one direction and the tops in another. Then some corners rise higher than the others. There are several ways to use this composition to get a fresh twist to a building.
Easy way to get some more light inside the log building is to combine glass so that nature can come as close as possible in your living room or sauna.
The walls can also arch outwards before the plate log or inwards like in a vault. Endless possibilities await to be revealed as stunning creations of art.
